I was very fortunate to share my date of birth with my grandfather. He and I started going to Ray’s on the River to celebrate our birthday almost 10 years ago. My grandfather passed away in 2007, but my family still takes me to Ray’s every year for my birthday. Ray’s on the River grew from a neat spot on the river to my favorite restaurant in Atlanta.

It all started that birthday night when I went to dinner with my grandfather. I remember it like it was yesterday – I can taste the trout now! The restaurant changed a lot since then, but the food and feel are still the same. Thanks for providing a great experience every time I dine.

Last Feb 26th started out as the worst birthday for me.  My husband and middle son were out of town working, my oldest son was living in North GA, my youngest son was away at school, and my Daddy was dying of renal failure.

I was stressed, lonely, and in tears all day.

A dear friend offered to bring me to Ray’s in the City for dinner.  I went reluctantly.

We asked for a table for 2, and I was immediately taken to the back of the restaurant where to my surprise my whole family was sitting.

I cried tears of joy!  It became the best birthday ever.  I will never forget the gleam of joy in my Daddy’s eyes for being able to surprise me.

As I celebrate another birthday tomorrow with my dear Daddy now in Heaven with my Moma, there will be tears but also a FABULOUS memory.  Thank you Ray’s!

My Father and Mother loved Ray’s on the River. It was a celebration to go there, whether we were celebrating birthdays, their anniversary or just the day. I always loved hearing my Father say, “How about meeting us at Ray’s on the River on Thursday?”

It was such a happy place, and I will never forget the wonderful way we were treated. There was a manager, Mike, who was always so glad to see my parents and treated them royally. These pictures were taken probably 25 years ago and they are treasures. I think we were celebrating my Father’s birthday that day.

I remember that my Mother loved the crab and my Father loved the shrimp. We always loved looking out at the river and thinking how great it was for us to be at Ray’s. It was like being on vacation. Everything on the menu was delicious. The employees were perfect and did all they could to make you comfortable. My parents passed away and I miss them each day. I am so glad that you gave me this opportunity; there will always be a special place in my heart for the fun and happy times at Rays on the River.

My boyfriend and I have been living in different states for the past three years.  It has been really difficult to say the least.  I live in Virginia, and he started out in South Carolina then moved to Atlanta. We try to see each other once a month, but sometimes we have gone as long as four months apart.

The first time I came to visit him in Atlanta, he took me to Ray’s on the River for lunch.  Not only was the food delicious, but the view was incredible!  It was a gorgeous summer day, and we spent the afternoon walking along the flowers and riverside enjoying each others company.  For that short while, I felt like I was home.

It’s not the beautiful straight-out-of-a-movie love story like others’, we didn’t get engaged there and we didn’t have a fancy wedding there.  But for me, whenever we go to Ray’s, I think about that warm afternoon and how it felt to finally get a day with my boyfriend.  It was perfect to me, and I couldn’t think of a better memory.

9 years ago was the happiest day of my life. I became a mom…although a single mom. One year ago, December 20th, was the second happiest day of my life, only I didn’t know it at the time.

I met my son’s birth father at Rays on the river after no contact with him since I was three months pregnant. I got there early, and was sitting in the lobby when he walked in. I looked up and my heart jumped into my throat. I hadn’t spoken to him in 9 1/2 years and he was standing in front of me. I was so nervous I just jumped up and hugged him right there in your lobby.

We were taken to a beautiful table overlooking the river and all of the magic happened. Our server was amazing, our steaks were fabulous and the wine was delicious! It truly was magical! In October he met our son for the first time.

One year later, we came back to Ray’s on the river to celebrate our reunion, and our 1 year dating anniversary. We have been together ever since. Christmas morning he proposed to me. We will be getting married on 6/7/13. Thank you Ray’s on the river! We are finally getting our happy ending!

Ray’s will always hold the most special memories for me…because on June 8th, 2007, I met the love of my life at Ray’s on the Creek. We are engaged now and will be married this June 8th.

After celebrating so many special occasions at Ray’s (New Year’s Eves, birthdays, and, of course, our “anniversary” of the day we met), I have come to a very unique realization – this is one of those restaurants that you’ll want to go to time and time again, not only because of the delicious food, drinks and superb service, but because it’s something you’ll remember for a long time. I can honestly say that there are only a handful of restaurants that truly stick out when it comes to remembering how I felt when I was there. Some, I have incredibly fond memories of, while others I have simply forgotten.

It’s the power of the staff (and the menu) to create that unique experience and atmosphere…to make people enjoy their time together dining and interacting with one another. That is what truly makes a restaurant great…and Ray’s on the Creek is one great restaurant.
